Setting up the Repeater/Link system for the first time:

• UNZIP into FREE directory : EG ILINK-RPTR or simular.
  
  If you use a shortcut from the desktop for example, be sure to set the WORKING DIRECTORY to the directory where the .exe files are located - or the wav files wont play!
  
• Connect the hardware to the Serial COM1 or COM2 port on the computer using the plug supplied or use an existing lead. (If you use com port 2 you must set it up in the software - Under HELP then restart the program.)
  
• PLUG DB9 to Board socket (top is 1...) PIN NO 5 goes to board 1 (GND - GND) IF NEEDED! May not be present. PIN NO 3 goes to board 2 (TXD - RXD) PIN NO 2 goes to board 3 (RXD - TXD) Connect ptt line to PTT on radio (packet connector?) and GND. Connect +6 to +25V DC to the power terminals.
  
• Connect Audio from RADIO to the audio in port, split the wires and also connect to the soundcard mic input/line in via a 73Kohm - 150Kohm resistor. Make sure that you dont overdrive your soundcard as it will distort. The MIXER stage is NOT the first audio stage.
  
• Connect Audio from COMPUTER line output to the radio line input.
  
• Run the software = the LED on the board should start to flash showing the system is working.
  
  *** If you have a fast computer you may have to go into CONTROL PANEL, senect COM PORTS - DEVICES then disable FIFO buffer and move the sliders to the left - thankyou to Nobby G0OPD for this info***
  
  
  
  
  
• Setting up the software:
  
  Record/edit these .wav files, they are played over the radio:
  
  Best 8 bit, 8000 samples/sec.
  
  info.wav - Contains quickly your call sign for id. (keep as SHORT as possible - "M0CSH iGATE")
  
  info1.wav - Detailed info - Location, Op, Website etc - played when the * key is heard when there is no connection. "Welcome to .... WWW.AACNET.NET, Located ......"
  
  ok.wav - Played when a connection is attempted - eg, "M0CSH gateway, connecting..." conn.wav - Played on connecting over RADIO only.. when connected - "Go ahead, connected"
  
  dc.wav - Played when disconnected from a link or when no connection can be made. "DISCONNECTED..."
  
  nr.wav - Played over radio when there is no reply to called station. Could mean they are BUSY or NOT ON THE SYSTEM AT THIS TIME.
  "NO REPLY - COULD BE BUSY OR NOT ONLINE AT THE MOMENT"
  
  Try to record these wav files in Radio Quality - using a sound editor if possible to remove to much LF components. If your soundcard has Bass/Treb controls set the bass to min to get the best transmitted audio quality on playback of wav files and live audio from the link.
  
  If you want a welcome message played over internet to calling stations then record the file below.
  Best kept under 3 seconds. Eg "Welcome to M0CSH gateway..."
  
  iwelcome.wav file at 8000 samples/sec at 8 BIT.
  
  The above must be 8000 samples at 8 bit!! Select the option under the help/welcome file option.
  
  
  
  
• REMOTE SHUTDOWN CODE:
  
  Under help you can enter a 3 digit shutdown code - this will shut the system down when this code is entered.. Make sure it is not the same as an index number. It start with 023 or 971 etc.. There is no way to bring the software back up remotly so use sparingly.
  
  
• When you first log-in, choose a high security password for your link in the password box. Not just your callsign. It is a good idea to use a few numbers also. Examples are GB78UUT, G773RTQQ.
  
  
  
  REMEMBER ON FIRST CONNECTION TO CLICK UTILS/VOX TO SET UP THE VOX CONTROL - IT IS VERY SENSITIVE AND SHOULD PICK UP THE 'CARRIER' WHEN THERE IS A SIGNAL, EVEN WITH NO VOICE!
  You only need to do this again if you alter the radio audio level.

  There have been many emails asking what the sysop utils box is for in the main website - this is for volunteer sysops to log in a help validate the new users on the system and perform housekeeping tasks for ilink. It is not for access to the sysop area!
